A pervert who carried out a sickening sex assault on a schoolgirl had previously been in prison in Romania for attempted murder.

Florin Fechete, 33, preyed on the 12-year-old, who was wearing her school uniform, as she was walking her dog before school.

As the paedophile was jailed for 15 months, it emerged he once threatened a former girlfriend with a knife before setting her on fire with a cigarette lighter in his homeland.

Fechete was jailed by a Romanian court for eight years in September 2002 for the brutal attack – which saw his victim survive by racing outside and rolling in snow.

On September 26 last year, Fechete, now living in Scunthorpe, Lincolnshire, crept up behind the girl at around 7am before yanking down his trousers and hoisting up her skirt.

He then thrust his groin area against her rear, causing the girl to scream and run off with her dog

At a hearing at Grimsby Crown Court, Fechete admitted sexually assaulting the girl.

Prosecutor Jeremy Evans said the traumatised youngster was left shocked and scared by the ex act.

“The victim turned around and screamed and scuttled off with her dog on the lead,” said Mr Evans.

He said the girl was then helped by members of the public.

He added: “A young girl on the street has been targeted.”

Her mother later said her daughter was afraid to go to school on her own, following the attack.

The judge, Recorder Bryan Cox, QC told Fechete: “She was obviously startled and frightened and I readily accept that she has been affected by these events and she will carry the memory of them for many years to come.”

Fechete was given a 10-year sexual harm prevention order and must register as a sex offender for 10 years.

The court heard Fechete had eight previous convictions in his native Romania, including for the attempted murder.

Mr Evans said the incident started with Fechete setting light to a rug before the woman poured lighter fluid on herself.

He then stepped forward to set her alight.

“She was able to roll in the snow outside to extinguish the flames,” added Mr Evans.
