A teacher has been jailed for 18 months after admitting to possessing indecent images of children and extreme pornography involving sexual intercourse with an animal.

Caroline Parry, 45, appeared at Teesside Magistrates’ Court this morning to be sentenced.

Parry, who was head of English at Bishopsgarth School secondary school, carried out the offences over a period of six years – between September 29, 2009, to October 23 last year.

Some of the images she held were in category A which showed children being raped by adults and others in category B.

Investigators say evidence was discovered that showed Parry had taken part in “extreme” online chats for a number of years.

Harry Hadfield, prosecuting, told the court Parry was caught after a National Crime Agency investigation in the United States.

He said Parry, a secondary school teacher and head of English, was in communication with a man who the investigation was looking into.

The conversations between them were about sexual images of children, as well as the sharing of those images.

He said: “She was a member of the school leadership team.”

The National Crime Agency executed a search warrant on October 22 2015 and Parry was arrested on suspicion of possessing indecent images.

Her reply to the caution was: “have you found anything?”

During a search of her home in Ormesby police searched a number of computers and mobile phones as well as a USB stick.

The indecent images involved children as young as seven in “distress and pain”.

Mr Hadfield said that Parry was interviewed on October 22 last year and admitted that she had received indecent images but said she had no sexual interest in young children.

She explained she had deleted all of the images.

She was interviewed again in January where she said she could not “recall” receiving the images adding she was “probably drunk” at the time.

Mr Hadfield told the court that there were a “large number of victims.”

Ms Rachael Dyson, defending Parry, said that she “co-operated completely” with police and made “full and frank admissions” when interviewed by them.

She said Parry entered a guilty plea at the earliest stage. She “did not transfer any images to anybody else”.

She added Parry, a mother-of-three, was “extremely remorseful” of her actions and was keen to work with the authorities.

Parry was a “hard working and well respected teacher”, the court was told, and the arrest has sent “shock waves” through the profession.

Jailing her Judge Stephen Ashurst said that Parry’s “fall from Grace has been no less than spectacular.”

Parry was also made subject of a 10 year sexual harm prevention order.

Schoolteacher caught with indecent images of children

A Stockton teacher was caught with indecent images of children.

Bishopsgarth School in Stockton said that offences admitted by Caroline Parry are “in no way related to the school or its pupils”.

The 45-year-old appeared at Teesside Magistrates’ Court to admit to possessing 20 indecent photographs of children.

More than three quaters of the images were category A – featuring the rape of children

The former head of English also pleaded guilty to possessing extreme pornography involving an animal.

While the offences took place over a period of six years, Ms Parry was working at Bishopsgarth when she was arrested last year.

A spokesman for the school, based on Harrowgate Lane, Stockton , said: “Ms Parry is no longer employed by the school and we would like to reassure our parents and carers that these offences are in no way related to the school or its pupils.

“Furthermore, we have very robust policies and procedures in place to safeguard and protect children in our care.”

Parry had worked at the school for less than a year, he added.

Paul Power, prosecuting, told magistrates on Monday that Parry was caught after an investigation by the National Crime Agency (NCA) into another person.

A USB stick belonging to Parry was then seized and the images were found.

Along with the indecent images, it was said that Key Stage Three and Four lesson plans were also found on the device.

A spokeswoman for the National Crime Agency said: “Following an NCA investigation a 45-year-old former school teacher pleaded guilty on March 14 to offences relating to the possession of indecent images of children and associated offences.

“The matter is now in the court process and as such any further comment would not be appropriate at this time.

“The NCA is working closely with Cleveland Police and the local authority to ensure that safeguarding is in place for anyone affected.”

The NCA said any concerned members of the public can contact the NSPCC on 0808 800 5000.

Parry, of Ryhill Walk, Ormesby, pleaded guilty to two counts of making indecent photographs of children, possessing an indecent photograph of a child and possessing an extreme pornographic image involving an animal.
