FORMER Tenerife resident Andrew Logan, has today been sentenced to 5 years 9 months after being found guilty on a number of charges of a sexual nature against a child.

Known locally as Andy Van Man, last month he was found guilty on seven counts of sexual activity involving a girl under the age of 13.

The well-known man was arrested in Tenerife in May 2015 and flown by police to Madrid to answer an extradition warrant issued by the UK authorities.

After a swift hearing, he was transferred into the custody of British police officers and on 30th June was charged with four counts of sexual assault of a female child under 13.

He was also charged with two counts of cause/incite a female child under 13 to engage in sexual activity, and one count of engaging in a sexual activity in the presence of a child aged under 13.

The 44-year-old, formerly of Clayton-le-Moors, near Accrington in Lancashire, had pleaded not guilty to all the charges, which happened over a decade ago.

Detective Inspector Julie Cross said after the trial: “He was arrested in Tenerife in May last year and then taken to Madrid and charged with numerous offences and, following the trial, has been convicted of all of them.

“Unfortunately, they were only reported to us in 2009 and it’s taken a long time to reach the point where he could be brought back into the country.”

She added: “The victim had to give her account and evidence of the attacks, which isn’t the best thing, and she did extremely well.

“Hopefully she will now be able to get some closure as a result of the verdicts.”
