A man has been jailed for offences involving indecent images of children.
Raymond Johnson, 36 years-old, formerly of Leaveland Close in Ashford, was arrested after an investigation by the Kent Police child exploitation investigation team. Johnson had illegally accessed an email account and subsequently set up an account on a social networking site, linking to the email address. Using the site, he contacted a number of girls, posing as a 15 year-old girl himself, and downloaded and distributed indecent images.
Indecent images
Johnson was arrested in November 2011. Analysis of his computer uncovered a number of indecent images and videos.
Johnson was charged with voyeurism, possessing prohibited images of children, two counts of possessing extreme pornography, distributing an indecent image of a child, seven counts of possession of indecent images of children and unauthorised computer access with intent to commit further offences.
15 months
Having pleaded guilty, Johnson appeared before Maidstone Crown Court on 3 January and was jailed for a total of 15 months.
Detective Constable Matthew Avery from the Kent Police child exploitation and investigation team said: ‘Johnson indiscriminately preyed upon vulnerable females by pretending to be a female. In order to do this he illegally accessed someone’s internet account so that he could masquerade as them. Johnson then amassed a collection of indecent images of children, some of which he distributed to others. This demonstrates that he lacks awareness of the very real harm that such behaviour causes to the children, and that he saw them as objects for his own satisfaction.’
Sex offenders’ register
Johnson will also be placed on the sex offenders’ register indefinitely, and will be subject to a sexual offences prevention order.
