Man jailed for abuse

A MAN has been jailed for nine years after admitting a catalogue of abuse against a young girl.

Royce Lisseter, 46, of Townend Farm, Goole, pleaded guilty at Hull Crown Court to two offences of rape and one of indecent assault.

The abuse happened over seven years when the former electrical engineer lived in the Howden area.

He had targeted a young girl and subjected her to persistent abuse culminating in rape, the court was told.

Prosecutor Sharon Beattie said he began grooming the girl when she was five. The rapes were committed in 2001.

She said: “The complainant says he sexually abused her for years even before she knew what he was doing. She lived in fear of him.” The court heard he warned his victim to keep quiet about the abuse.

Eventually she told a family member this year and the abuse was reported to the police in April.

Lisseter had initially pleaded not guilty to the charges and was due to face trial next week before he changed his plea.

Judge Peter Jones said: “There are a number of aggravating factors, you were persistent in the abuse, it was planned, you targeted and ruined that young child’s life.

“She feels her teenage years were taken away from her.

“It was a most terrifying and frightening experience that went on for a number of years.” He sentenced him to nine years for each count of rape and five years for the indecent assault.

The sentences are to be served concurrently, making a total of nine years.

He was ordered to sign the sex offenders’ register.
