A 59-year-old man convicted of raping a teenage girl in the 1980s has today been jailed for 15 years.
David Occleston, born 16/8/53, of Robinia Close, Brookhouse, Salford, was convicted of two offences of rape following a five day trial at Minshull Street Crown Court.
He was today, Tuesday 4 December 2012, sentenced to 15 years imprisonment and ordered to sign the Sex Offenders Register for life.
Occleston repeatedly raped his victim in the 1980s when she was aged between 14 and 16.
The victim came forward to police in February 2011 and reported the abuse after she had undergone counselling.
Detective Constable Karen Evans, of the Child Abuse Investigation Team at Swinton, said: “Occleston’s victim has shown enormous bravery in coming forward and speaking of the abuse she suffered all those years ago.
“Today’s result sends out the powerful message that GMP will always investigate complaints of abuse and that the passing of time will not prevent offenders from being pursued.”
