I’m a pervert, send me to jail

A CHILD molester got his “jail me” wish granted for horrific sex attacks dating back almost three decades.

Self-confessed paedophile William Robson had been convicted in 1981 of indecently assaulting an eight-year-old girl.

But his depraved attack on a 10-year-old boy around the same time went unreported and unpunished.

Robson went on to target a seven-year-old Tyneside school girl in 1990, staging a string of assaults which again were never revealed.

But his traumatised victims finally told police about their ordeals last year. Robson, 64, from Barrasford Street, East Howdon, North Tyneside, told probation officers and lawyers he should be locked up.

And he was jailed for three years after admitting five charges of indecent assault at Newcastle Crown Court..

“He not only expects a custodial sentence but says in a way it would achieve closure for his victims”, said Paul Cross, defending.

“There is a desire to see himself punished because he feels that is what should happen to him for what he has done and because he feels it would make it much easier for the victims to see justice has been done.”

Pre-sentence reports showed Robson had a high degree of insight into the paedophile urges he had managed to control on his own since the last attack, the court was told.

Judge David Wood said he gave credit for Robson’s guilty pleas and openness since his arrest.

But passing sentence, he told him: “Sadly both of your victims have been seriously affected by this, right up until today. You are sexually attracted to young children and you do pose a risk to them in the future.

“These offences are so serious only custody can be justified.” Robson was also banned from ever working with children, given a five-year sex offences prevention order, and must register as a sex offender for life.. There is a desire to see himself punished because he feels that is what should happen to him for what he has done
