Swansea man Ian Bailey sent to jail for storing indecent images
A TOWNHILL man wept as he was jailed for storing indecent images of children on his laptop.
Ian Bailey, from Ceri Road, Townhill, also admitted possessing images of extreme pornography involving live animals.
The 25-year-old was imprisoned him for 12 weeks by city magistrates.
He admitted three charges of possessing indecent images of children and 51 involving animals including dogs and horses.
Two of the images of children were classed as level four and the other as level 5 — the most serious.
Bailey also admitted four charges of possessing 51 extreme pornographic images.
The images were found after police acted on intelligence and raided his mother-in-law’s home at another house on Ceri Road, Townhill on September 27, 2011.
Officers seized two computers which were then examined by specialist officers.
Bailey was interviewed three times by police. In the first interview he denied any knowledge of the photographs but later admitted he had downloaded the images of extreme pornography. At one point he also denied downloading images of the underage girls.
He has already signed the Sex Offenders’ Register and was also made subject to a Sexual Offences Prevention Order by Swansea magistrates aimed at limiting his future use of computers.
Simon Howells, representing Bailey, said: “This is the type of case where very often the case will drag on for months before the question of plea is properly resolved. Very much to Ian Bailey’s credit, he acknowledged his guilty plea early on and that is a significant mitigating factor.”
He said the case had been “hanging over” his client and had made him “extremely anxious and depressed”.
“There’s no suggestion that the images have been stored and there’s no suggestion at all that the images had been distributed to others,” said Mr Howells.
“He didn’t actively seek out child pornography websites,” he added.
Terms of 12 weeks were imposed for each of the seven weeks. They will all run concurrently.
