A DULAIS Valley man has been sent to prison for serious sex offences involving a 13-year-old girl he had contacted via Facebook.
Michael Roger Davies was jailed for 12 months by a judge at Swansea Crown Court.
The 29-year-old, of Cae Mawr, Seven Sisters, pleaded guilty to a two-count indictment comprising offences of meeting a child following sexual grooming and engaging in sexual activity with her in July.
Georgina Buckley, prosecuting, said the girl in question was a 13-year-old that Davies had got to know through Facebook. They eventually met and some sexual activity took place between them.
Questioned after his arrest, Davies maintained he had believed her to be 15 or 16.
John Hipkin, in mitigation, said it was conceded by the defence that Davies’s conduct had been “disgraceful and horrible”.
But the barrister claimed that the defendant had indulged in nothing more than kissing with the teenager.
Judge Keith Thomas said it was clear that Davies had tried to “encourage a relationship” with the schoolgirl — conduct that was so serious that only a jail term was appropriate.
He also ordered Davies to be registered as a sex offender for 10 years.
