Father-of-three sent to jail for groping girl, 15

A WORCESTER father-of-three has been jailed for six months for groping a 15-year-old girl who was a guest in his house.

A court heard he had already been subjected to ‘summary justice’ – beaten up in his house by members of the girl’s family.

Andrew Edwards, aged 50, of Carlisle Road, Ronkswood, pleaded guilty at Worcester Crown Court to sexual activity with a child.

He was ordered to register as a sex offender for seven years and a Sexual Offences Prevention Order was made for the same period. There had been celebration in December, 2010, after a presentation for stock car racing awards, said Samantha Forsyth, prosecuting.

Two girls had bedded down on a sofa in the lounge when Andrews, very drunk, came into the room and put his hand under the duvet.

After he had touched the 15-year-old, she jumped up and went upstairs to tell other people. She heard him say: “My wife is going to kill me because of this.” Miss Forsyth said the girl told her mother and when Andrews was arrested in January, he denied attacking her and said he had been using his computer.

Jason Aris, mitigating, said that it was an opportunistic assault by a man who was very drunk. The effect upon his victim was not long-lasting. He said there had been summary justice when the girl’s family had gone to the house and beaten up Andrews.

The attackers were identified but police took no action. Andrews had workedweek in a responsible supervisory role but had lost his job five years ago. He had been happily married for many years.
