Paedophile monster jailed for 18 years

The victim of a depraved paedophile jailed for 18 years for a series of shocking attacks on underage boys has spoken of how his life was destroyed by the sexual predator.

The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, broke his silence on his ordeal at the hands of “sick monster” Alan Brian George – saying that his “favourite food was the souls of young boys”.

This week, George was jailed for a total of 18 years for horrific historic charges of child abuse against two boys, then aged 12 and 14, dating back to the 1980s.

Now one of his victims, now 36, has told of his experience of being “systematically attacked” by vile predator George over three months while he was living in care at a children’s home in Cardiff.

He said that air conditioning unit salesman George, now 60, befriended him and other vulnerable boys to satisfy his own “pure sexual depravity” – and his actions meant his own life spiralled into drug addiction and prison.

Among the shocking details of George’s crimes were that he:

• Befriended a single mother, making her believe he wanted to start a relationship, before repeatedly abusing her son over a period of several years;

• Drove his victims to secluded spots to sexually abuse them in his car – and even managed to take young boys from a care home away for a weekend in Blackpool where he abused them;

• Lured one boy to a house where he had pre-arranged for two other men to lie in wait, before they hooded and gang-raped him.

Speaking ahead of his tormentor’s sentencing, his victim told of the horrific ordeal he endured after being groomed and abused at just 14 – but said that he “felt sorry” for him.

He said that George had gained his trust after cruising around the home, before taking them out for drives and allowing the kids to take the wheel. He then “capitalised” on the vulnerability of the young boys in his company.

“He would come and take us out in his car and let us drive. By that time, we were initiated into going out.

“It started off with little things.

The grooming process started to take hold. Before we knew it, we were all engaged in sexual acts, and couldn’t even see anything wrong with that.

“I was only 14 at the time. The children’s home found out about it – and they took me to a child psychologist up in Cardiff children’s hospital and I just couldn’t talk about it, I just shut down. I was scared, very ashamed and was blaming myself.”

He said that the trauma of what happened to him meant he had repressed the memories for more than 25 years, before South Wales Police contacted him to say the other victim had come forward.

“I had moved away from the children’s home to another one 30 miles away,” he said. “And that’s the last thing I heard about it until 2011 when the police get in contact with me, telling me that someone else has come forward.

“As soon as they mentioned this guy’s [George’s] name, it came back. Up until that point, I’d been in denial. I’d repressed these memories.

“In 1998 I walked into a police station in Bristol and said ‘something has happened to me, I don’t know what, can you please try and investigate it’.

“But nothing came of that, although I couldn’t understand why they couldn’t check on the PNC [Police National Computer] and they’d have found out that this guy had been convicted.”

He said that George used to take him out for drives, initially without initiating anything, before gradually initiating sex acts, making him perform sex acts on him, and on other boys while he watched.

He said he was once taken on a weekend trip to Blackpool with another boy, while still living at the care home.

During the trip, the pair were abused repeatedly in between going on fairground rides and going out into the city.

“We were staying in a B&B, going out on all the rides, and then coming back and having sex,” he said.

Swansea Crown Court heard this week how evil George had snared another, younger boy into his web – by befriending the boy’s mother who ran a local pub, who believed that he wanted to have a relationship with her.

Judge Huw Davies QC said that George had gained the victim’s trust by taking him out for drives with his older brother, who then stopped going on the trips as he was bored.

It was then that he began sexually abusing the boy, often taking him to a disused airfield in South Wales to “let him practise trying to drive” – before making him perform sex acts.

The court heard that George became progressively more controlling, on one occasion locking the boy out of the car and only allowing him back in once he had exposed himself to George.

As the boy began to resist, the court heard from the judge, George attempted to coerce him by threatening to show photographs of what was going on to other people, which “terrified” the boy, and this told George that the boy was “under his control”.

His abuse of the boy became progressively worse, culminating in the 12-year-old being lured into a house, where two men were lying in wait – before they hooded him and took it in turns to rape him – in what the judge described as an “appalling experience”.

The net only began to close around George when one of his victims confessed about his appalling experiences to a girlfriend and a councillor decades later.

“In the unhappy result, it was to be years before [the two victims] were to receive any vindication,” the judge said.

And George’s victim said his abuser had “sensed” that he and other boys were vulnerable – having come from a family of alcoholism and violence, leading to him going into care at 12.

“It was just like an adult was being one of the lads. He brought himself down to our level, so that he could penetrate our minds and carry out his manipulations,” he said.

“He had us all thinking that what we were doing was OK. That we were having a laugh.

“He would take us out. He would let us drive his car, and that would always be followed be some sort of sexual act.”

He added: “I can remember a lot of the stuff that did go on.

“Once, Alan picked me up and had to do some work, so we went out to Port Talbot steelworks where he had a business meeting, but I spent the day with him, by myself.

“This is going to sound really strange – but in some respects I think that Alan knew what kind of child to look for. One that specifically needed parental figures in their life. Subconsciously I was searching for a father, but I ended up getting that monster instead.

“That’s how he worked. He could see vulnerabilities, and could capitalise on them. I feel sorry for him, honestly. If that’s what drives him, then what a sad person he is.

“He is a monster – and his favourite food is the souls of young boys. What his actions do to a child like me – was that it made me feel so ashamed of myself on a subconscious level and that led me to heroin addiction, which is destructive, as you might imagine.

“What that experience took from me was my ability to then trust people. Without trust, you can’t function as a human being. It’s so hard. You can’t maintain relationships, it’s a devastating thing.”
