Rehabilitation order for security guard who downloaded child porn
A HOSPITAL security guard caught downloading images of child pornography at work has been given a three-year rehabilitation order.
Ian Caldwell, 54, from Chatham, admitted to downloading dozens of indecent images of children while working the night shift at Dulwich Hospital.
Caldwell, who used to work with children at his local church group, was caught after a colleague found someone had used his computer to search for child sex websites.
Searches by police at Caldwell’s home revealed that he had saved similar pictures on his son’s computer.
The married father-of-two has been banned from working with children for 10 years and must sign the sex offender’s register for five years.
The judge told him he had escaped jail because the images he downloaded were at the lowest level of obscenity.
Roderick Jones for the defence said his client ‘bitterly, bitterly regretted’ what he had done.
Cadwell was also ordered to pay £400 towards the cost of forensic analysis of the two computers, and admitted to 18 counts of making indecent photographs of children between October 4 2003 and October 12 2004.
