Babysitter Denis Carr jailed for eight years for sexually assaulting girl
A DETECTIVE has welcomed an eight-year jail sentence given to a man for sexually assaulting a young girl.
Denis Carr, 51, attacked the seven-year-old girl while babysitting her.
A jury at Hull Crown Court found Carr, of Nunnery Walk, South Cave, guilty of attacking the child.
Detective Constable Katrina Shipley said he has shown no remorse.
She said: “Denis Carr has begun his sentence for assaulting a young child.
“His victim can now begin to rebuild her life knowing he is where he deserves to be.
“Carr has shown absolutely no remorse throughout the investigation and has put the victim through a trial.”
Carr was arrested after the girl raised the alarm last April.
Judge David Tremberg has sentenced him to eight years in jail. Carr was convicted by a jury of two counts of indecency against children and was cleared of five counts of indecent assault.
He was cleared of attacking three more girls aged under 10.
Carr has been ordered to sign the sex offenders register for life.
Detective Constable Shipley said she was pleased Carr had been convicted and hopes his eight-year jail sentence will encourage other victims of sex abuse to come forward.
She said: “I am very pleased the jury saw through his lies and found him guilty of two counts of indecency against a child.
“I would like to thank the victim for her bravery in coming forward and would urge any further victims of sexual offences to come forward.
“We are committed to pursuing and prosecuting child sex offenders.”
