A PAEDOPHILE who asked his GP to help him control his sexual urges, after he abused a young girl, has been jailed.
Terence Barclay, 49, of Bromfords Drive, Wickford, also sexually assaulted the child and an older girl while on bail for a similar offence.
Barclay pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual touching and one count of assault by penetration, against a child under the age of 13. He was jailed for five years.
Southend Crown Court was told Barclay performed an indecent act on the youngest girl on Easter Sunday last year.
Afterwards, she told her mother she “can’t say anything” about what had happened.
When arrested, Barclay admittedto police he had carried out a similar assault against the girl once before, between January 1 and April 8, last year.
On September 26, while on bail for these offences, Barclay carried out a 30-minute assault on the older girl.
The court was told that for the past three years, Barclay, a Tesco employee, had tried to suppress his increasing sexual urges towards children.
He sought help from his GP, confessing to his attack against the young girl, and was referred to the appropriate medical health teams.
The court was told his victims were struggling to come to terms with the attacks.
Deputy circuit judge Gareth Davies sentenced Barclay to 18 months in prison for the two counts of sexual touching, and to three and a half years in prison for assault by penetration, to run consecutively.
He said: “You took your opportunity when it presented itself.
“You have sought some help between the offences, but I have to consider the seriousness of what happened.”
Barclay will be placed on the sex offenders’ register and banned from working with children indefinitely.
