POLICE found 1,400 images of child pornography when they raided a private nursery and infant school.
The photographs belonged to Alun Briggs, whose parents run the Radlett Nursery Infant School in Radlett.
St Albans crown court heard on Monday that Briggs lived in a self-contained flat at the school, where he taught calligraphy to the children for an hour a week.
Briggs, 35, downloaded images of children which ranged from nude, erotic poses to ones where they were performing sexual acts, said Samantha Cohen, prosecuting.
He was arrested in October last year after the FBI in the USA provided the British police with details of people who had used their credit cards to access Landslide Productions, which acted as a gateway to child pornography sites.
Judge Findlay Baker QC passed a three year Community Rehabilitation Order and ordered that Briggs register as a sex offender for 5 years.
He ordered him to pay £750 prosecution costs and said the computers seized by police should be confiscated and the child pornography images destroyed.
