Pervert jailed after having sex with 13-year-old girl

A pervert who had sex with a 13-year-old girl after he had been communicating with her on Facebook has been jailed.

Sheffield Crown Court heard today, Friday, July 9, how David Woodcock contacted the youngster on Facebook and their conversation became sexual and he asked to meet her.

Judge David Dixon told Woodcock: “There was quite clearly a grooming process here. Chatting to a 13-year-old girl, by a man of your age, is worrying in itself.”

Andrew Bailey, prosecuting, said Woodcock met the girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, in Cudworth, Barnsley, before walking into woods where he groped her and had oral sex and sex with her.

Woodcock, aged 38, of Tower Street, Worsbrough Common, Barnsley, pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual activity with a child after the incident in April, 2019.

Vanessa Saxton, defending, said: “He recognises and understands his behaviour was both unlawful when he was speaking to this child and when he met this child and for what happened.

“He still now cannot give any indication to himself or others who have met him in the proceedings as to why he involved himself in this way.”

Judge Dixon sentenced Woodcock to 62 months of custody and placed him under a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for 15 years.

He told the defendant: “The reality is, for reasons you cannot understand or explain, you sought to abuse a child.”

Woodcock, who the court heard has no previous convictions, was also made subject to an indefinite restraining order.

Pervert who worked at Sheffield Children’s Hospital caught with indecent images of youngsters

A pervert who worked at Sheffield Children’s Hospital was caught with 388 indecent images of youngsters on his laptop and mobile phone.

Sheffield Crown Court heard on July 5 how Phillip Gill was caught with indecent still and moving images of children including those in categories A, B and C, with A being the most serious.

Meghan Rhys, prosecuting, said: “Police officers attended the home address of the defendant and executed a search warrant and the defendant was not present but a number of electronic devices were seized including a computer laptop from his bedroom.”

Gill, aged 30, formerly of Wybourn House Road, near Park Hill, Sheffield, was arrested at work at Sheffield Children’s Hospital under suspicion of being in possession of indecent images, according to Ms Rhys.

Ms Rhys added that indecent images were found on the laptop from Gill’s bedroom and on his mobile phone recovered from his work locker.

Gill pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent images including: 34 category A still images and 43 category A moving images; 46 category B still images and six category B moving images; and 236 category C still images and 23 category C moving images.

Judge Dixon told Gill: “For every one of the girls and boys in those images there is a child that was abused.”

He sentenced Gill to 10 months of custody suspended for two years, with a rehabilitation requirement.

Gill was placed on a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for eight years.

Judge Dixon warned if Gill breaches his suspended sentence or commits another offence he will go to prison.

South Yorkshire man gets 19 years in jail for sexual offences against child

A 33-year-old man from Barnsley has been sentenced to 19 years in prison after being found guilty of sexual offences against a child.

Steven Sayles, 33, of Elsecar, was found guilty of four offences on May 19 after pleading not guilty at an earlier hearing.

The charges include rape of a girl under 13, inciting a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity, engage in sexual activity in the presence of a child and assault by touching.

At Sheffield Crown Court on June 25, Sayles was served a 19-year custodial sentence and has been placed on the sex offenders register for life.

Martin Allen, 49, of Albany Road, Balby, was found guilty of nine offences on 21 May, after pleading not guilty at a previous hearing.

The charges include inciting a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity and allowing a child to watch a sexual act.

At Sheffield Crown Court on Friday 19 June Allen was served a six year custodial sentence.

Sheffield paedophile pleads guilty after being caught with indecent images of children

A judge has told a man who was caught with indecent images of children that he faces all possible sentencing options.

Sheffield Crown Court heard on June 7 how Phillip Gill, aged 30, of Wybourn House Road, near Park Hill, Sheffield, was caught with indecent still images and moving images of children including images from categories A, B and C, with A being the most serious.

Gill pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent images including; 34 category A still images and 43 category A movng images; 46 category B still images and six category B moving images; and 236 category C still images and 23 category C moving images.

The three counts related to a time between June 18, 2017, and May 4, 2019.

Judge David Dixon adjourned the case until July 5 and requested a probation pre-sentence report before releasing Gill on unconditional bail. He told Gill all sentencing options remain open.
