Stamford man who downloaded 320 indecent images of children handed suspended jail term

A Stamford man who downloaded indecent images of children has escaped an immediate jail sentence at Lincoln Crown Court.

Tyler Curtis downloaded hundreds of images, including one of rape, which he then stored in a cloud system.

Abigail Hill, prosecuting, said police received information which led to officers raiding his then home in Dickens Drive, Stamford, and his work place.

A total of 320 indecent images of children were found on three different devices, together with 26 prohibited images of children.

Mrs Hill said: “The images were downloaded over an eight-year period between May 5, 2012 and March 17, 2020.

“When the defendant was interviewed he admitted he had been storing images in his Google Drive account. He said he hadn’t realised they were illegal.

“He denied any sexual interest in children. He said he uploaded the images to a cloud system so that his wife didn’t see them.”

Curtis, now of Wharf Road, Stamford, admitted three charges of making indecent images of children as well as one charge of possessing prohibited images of children.

He asked for a further matter of making indecent images of children to be taken into consideration

Curtis was given a 14-month jail sentence, suspended for 18 months, with a 35-day rehabilitation activity requirement.

He was ordered to complete a sexual offending treatment programme and has to pay £425 prosecution costs.

The 34-year-old was also placed on the sex offenders register for 10 years and given a 10-year sexual harm prevention order.

Murderer sent back to jail after committing further crimes

A convicted killer is back behind bars after he downloaded child sexual abuse images after he was freed on licence

Andrew Cox was given a life sentence for murder in 1994 but was later released on licence and went to live at an address in New Bolingbroke in East Lindsey.

Caroline Bradley, prosecuting, told Lincoln Crown Court on Thursday, April 15, that police received information that indecent images of children were being accessed from an email address used by Cox.

He was spoken to by officers in May 2020 and his iPhone was seized.

The phone was examined and a total of 108 indecent images of children were found including four in the most serious category. A further four prohibited images of children were also found.

Cox was later interviewed and said he had exchanged sexual photographs while conducting an on-line relationship.

Cox, 47, who at the time was living in Main Road, New Bolingbroke, admitted three charges of making indecent photographs of a child and a further charge of possession of a prohibited image of a child.

He was given a six-month jail sentence and placed on the sex offenders’ register for seven years. His I-phone was ordered to be destroyed.

The court was told that following his arrest Cox was recalled to prison to continue serving his life sentence and remains there. The decision on when he is released will be made by the Parole Board.

Man who raped woman in Huntingdon jailed

A man who raped a woman on a boat in Huntingdon is amongst three sex attackers who have been jailed this week.

Adam Bates, 32, of Houghton Road in St Ives, was sentenced to 14 years in prison at Peterborough Crown Court on Wednesday, July 6 for two offences of rape.

Ryan John Rostron, 28, of Monarchs Road in Sutterton, was sentenced to nine years in prison for rape, actual body harm, threats to cause criminal damage and threats to kill when he appeared at Cambridge Crown Court on Friday, July 1.

On Monday, July 4, Benjamin Morris, 32, of Bourne Road in Cambridge was jailed for 16 years at Cambridge Crown Court for sexually assaulting two boys in Cambridge and a girl in the USA.

Bates targeted one of his victims during a night out in St Ives.

He met the victim at a pub in November, 2015 and raped her after luring her to his car by offering her shelter from the rain while she smoked a cigarette.

The second assault took place on Bates’ boat at Hartford Marina, Huntingdon, in March 2014.

This victim came forward after hearing about Bates’ other offence.

Rostron raped his victim in 2011, also making threats to burn her car and kill her.

Morris travelled to Vermont to visit friends when he befriended a teenage girl and sexually assaulted her.

The offence was investigated by Cambridgeshire officers after he was not extradited by the authorities in the USA.

During the investigation into the offences committed against the girl, officers identified two Cambridge boys who had also been victims.

Pervert who filmed sex act caught trying to meet 14-year-old boy in Derbyshire

A pervert was caught travelling to Derbyshire to meet a 14-year-old boy by paedophile hunters after himself performing a sex act

Antony Balicki, 65, met the decoy – named Kai – on dating app Romeo and sent Whatsapp messages asking to “kiss and cuddle” him and for pictures of the boy in his pyjamas.

As conversations continued Balicki – who wrote that he was gay and gave “explicit” details of what he “liked to do sexually” – asked to meet for pizza and to “kiss and cuddle”.

Between Jan 11 and 13 last year Lincolnshire man Balicki filmed himself masturbating while “fully dressed” – which was screenshotted by activists.

Prosecutor Esther Harrison told Derby Crown Court how the following day Balicki “had regrets” and wrote “I think I did something really wrong last night”.

However he was confronted by activists later the same day – having travelled from Skegness to Heanor.

Former Derbyshire man Balicki had revealed he planned to travel to the area for a dental appointment – where the hunters were waiting.

Police were called and after viewing the Whatsapp messages on his phone they arrested him.

Judge Jonathan Bennett told Balicki the charges he faced were “attempted” sexual offences because the child was a decoy and not a child”.

However he added: “The serious aspect is what you intended to do and what’s clear to me from hearing these things is that you contacted Kai and initiated sexual conversations.

“You indicated what you would like to do – you also performed a sexual act – it’s disgraceful behaviour on your part.”

Balicki, of Meadowview, Skegness, admitted attempting to meet a child following grooming and attempting to cause a child to watch a sexual act.

He was jailed for 12 months concurrently for each charge suspended for two years with 40 rehabilitation days and given a 10-year sexual harm prevention order.

He was also fined £10,000 and made to pay £1,200 court costs and £149 victim surcharge.

Pervert drove 100 miles to secretly meet ’13-year-old girl’ at Middlesbrough Aldi

A “devious” paedophile was confronted by cops after trying to meet a 13-year-old girl at a supermarket car park.

Alan Friend was communicating on a chat room with who he believed was a schoolgirl but he was in fact being monitored by police

Teesside Crown Court heard how the 58-year-old told her that she had to keep their contact a secret and offered to get her a mobile phone.

Jonathan Walker, prosecuting, said he was sent an image of a young girl with blonde hair eating an ice cream and said he would like to take her out one day.

He said Friend told her that he wanted a “snog” and he had never kissed anyone her age before.

Mr Walker said: “The defendant’s intentions were clear from the offset.”

The court heard how Friend drove from Hull and arrived to meet the girl at Aldi car park in Middlesbrough town centre in July last year.

When he arrived, he was met by plain clothes police officers instead of the child.

Mr Walker told the court how he said “I knew it, I knew it” before banging his driver’s wheel repeatedly.

He said that Friend, who appeared in court via a video link to Durham prison, claimed he was meeting the child for a McDonalds and not sexual activity.

The court heard how Friend was previously handed a suspended prison sentence in 2016 for two offences of attempting to meet a child after sexual grooming.

He was also ordered to abide by a sexual harm prevention order until 2026.

During the previously occasion, Friend had been talking to a group of children, who he believed were around 13, and was also confronted by police officers.

Friend, of Brigg Road, Barton-upon-Humber, pleaded guilty to attempting to meet a child after sexual grooming and breaching a sexual harm prevention order.

Judge Jonathan Carroll told Friend that it was clear that he understood he wasn’t supposed to be talking to the child and told her she would have to keep it a secret.

The judge said that Friend told the child she couldn’t tell her parents and offered to get her a phone.

He said: “You were being devious and you know you were being devious.”

The judge said it is is not appreciated by the general public that judges can’t just impose “whatever sentence they like” and have to follow guidelines.

He said that, due to Friend serving time on remand, there was not enough time for him to complete a treatment programme if he was to be given immediate custody.

Judge Carroll said he had to consider whether children would be made safer if he undertook a course and was monitored and controlled by the probation service.

He told Friend: “You are clearly someone who needs that kind of intervention. You have admitted sexual interest in children. That will not simply dissipate or disappear, it needs to be confronted.”

The judge sentenced Friend to 21 months in prison suspended for two years.

He ordered him to complete 35 rehabilitation activity requirement days and a sex offenders treatment programme.

Judge Carroll extended his sexual harm prevention order, which was set to last until 2026, and made it indefinite.

Friend will be subject to sex offender notification requirements for the next 10 years.
