Dibden man dubbed ‘collector of images of abuse of children’

A pervert who had been collecting over half a million indecent images of children for around 30 years claimed he believed the children in them were not being abused but were models.

Richard Lees was called a “collector of images of abuse of children” by a judge after he was found with more than half a million images of children of which only 54,000 were analysed by police

Police carried out a search of Lees’ home on June 4, 2020, and seized a number of electronic devices, Winchester Crown Court heard on Friday.

Prosecuting, Jack Wright, said that only his desktop computer and mobile phone were examined by police.

The court heard that 11 Category B images and videos were found, but 58,489 Category C images and videos were discovered.

But the true scale of the 45-year-old’s offending could be much greater as more than 500,000 images were uncategorised because “police did not have the resources to download” them.

Lees, of The Orchard, Dibden, was using a BitTorrent to access the images and had three terabytes worth of downloads.

During the investigation police found that Lees would search the same terms and “admitted searching for the same faces on multiple occasions”.

Recorder Power said: “The concern I have, expressed in interview and the pre-sentence report, Mr Lees had no remorse and doesn’t see downloading images of children causes children to be abused.”

Lees previously pleaded guilty to two counts of making indecent photographs of childre

Lees was given a six-month prison sentence suspended for 24 months.

He must also complete 100 hours unpaid work and 20 rehabilitation days, along with the Horizon programme.

Man jailed for abusing girl

A paedophile sexually abused a young girl leaving her feeling sick and unable to trust adult men, a court heard.

Thomas Murphy started sexually abusing a girl the Southampton area when she was just six-years-old.

The 64-year-old told his victim, who cannot be named for legal reasons, that they would keep his crimes a “secret”.

Prosecution barrister, Robert Brown, said that the girl eventually complained about Murphy to her mother who then contacted the NSPCC.

She said that her abuser was nice when her mother was around but “horrible” when she was away.

The youngster added that she would tell him “get off me but he would continue”.

During a voluntary police interview, Murphy was made aware an allegation had been made against him.

He told officers “It had got out of hand” and that the abuse, which started in 2018 and lasted until 2020, had “started with tickling”.

Murphy claimed he was ashamed and referred to himself as a “bloody idiot”.

At one point, he even said: “I would not want to come to court or be a witness or nothing.”

In her victim impact statement read out at Southampton Crown Court by Mr Brown, the girl said: “When I am sleeping I get flashbacks.

“When I am lying down in my bed my hands shake a bit because I am scared it will happen again.”

In other parts of her statement, she said the ordeal left her feeling sick and that she had lost her trust in adult men.

Furthermore, she wanted to be a boy so she would not be abused in future.

Meanwhile, the girl’s father called Murphy’s crimes both hideous and inhumane.

Appearing before Southampton Crown Court, Murphy, of George Green, Slough, was charged with three counts of sexual assault to which he previously pleaded guilty.

However, Judge Nicholas Rowland deemed that nothing but a custodial sentence could be justified.

Murphy was jailed for 30 months and made the subject of an indefinite restraining order not to contact his victim.

He was given a ten-year sexual harm prevention order and must register as a sex offender.

Pervert caught in the act abusing an eight-year-old girl

A paedophile has been jailed after being caught in the act abusing an eight-year-old girl.

Shaun Hewer, 63, destroyed the little girl’s confidence and left her ‘shy, lacking in confidence and mistrusting’ those around her, a court heard.

Jurors at Portsmouth Crown Court convicted Hewer of two sexual assaults after they heard he touched and kissed the child.

‘She was always such a shy girl and only felt she could trust a few people,’ her mum said. ‘She was beginning to come out of her shell.’

Hewer, of Ann’s Hill Road in Gosport, was only stopped when a woman happened to spot what he was doing to the victim.

‘When all this started, every time I shut my eyes all I could see was his face and what he was doing,’ she said in a statement.

Judge Tim Mousley QC said Hewer thought he had ‘got her on her own’.

He said the woman who spotted Hewer was ‘significantly distressed’ by what she caught by chance but swung into action.

Jailing Hewer for four and a half years, the judge said: ‘Your intention was clear, you were intent on abusing her.

Southampton flasher left women ‘badly frightened’

A sex offender flashed two women walking their dogs in a Hampshire country lane.

Robert Oakley exposed himself to two women out walking their dogs on separate occasions, a court heard.

The 51-year-old, of Lyons Street, Southampton, followed his victims before pleasuring himself in front of them in Frog Lane, Fordingbridge.

Both were left “badly frightened”.

During sentencing, Judge Gary Burrell QC said that Oakley “seemed quite belligerent and arrogant” during his trial.

He said: “This sort of offence can sometimes lead to contact offences.

“You badly frightened both of these women. One was quite robust about it but the other was clearly frightened and scared by your behaviour. She was upset.”

He added: “You have exposed yourself to women before, but these offences are still aggravating factors.

“They were alone and where no one was around, and they were therefore vulnerable.”

For the offences which happened on January 25 and 28 last year, he was jailed for six months and made the subject of a five-year restraining order against one of his victims.

He must sign on as a sex offender for seven years.

Portsmouth area pervert installed cameras in bedroom and bathroom to watch pair urinate, defecate and sleep naked

A pervert secretly installed cameras recording a man and woman urinating and defecating in the bathroom and sleeping naked in their bed, a court heard.

Portsmouth Crown Court heard how he shattered the ‘shocked’ pair’s trust after they found a camera installed in a Bluetooth speaker on the top of a wardrobe.

Another camera was found partially hidden in the bathroom angled pointing at the toilet, prosecutor Martyn Booth said.

Pub chef Simon Clement, 28, was arrested when the horrified pair found the cameras and alerted police.

Officers analysing the recordings – saved onto an SD memory card and on his laptop – found footage of the man and woman, and Clements himself angling the camera.

Despite this Clement, who has no previous convictions, was initially ‘unable to say how or why the speaker ended up on top of the wardrobe,’ the court heard.

He even denied the recordings were made for ‘sexual gratification’ – but later admitted two charges of voyeurism alleging just that.

‘Both (the man and woman) were devastated by what they had found,’ Mr Booth said.

He added: ‘The impact and effect on them has been enormous. They have both encountered a huge lack of trust with others .

‘They both experienced a feeling of insecurity within their own homes.’

Clement had initially bought the cameras as directed by a doctor to record his night-time seizures but within a month put them to criminal use in the wider Portsmouth area in 2018-2019.

Recorder Elisabeth Bussey-Jones told Clement: ‘The fact is you were clearly deliberately using them to capture (the pair).’

Clement, of Brookmead Way in Langstone, Havant, was handed a 10-year restraining order in a bid to give his victims comfort knowing he could not contact them.

He was ordered to comply with a sexual harm prevention order and sign the sex offenders’ register for five years.

Recorder Elisabeth Bussey-Jones imposed a three-year community order with 150 hours’ unpaid work and a sex offenders’ programme with probation.

He must pay £800 prosecution costs.
