Man jailed for indecent assaults on young girls

Prison sentences of more than six years were imposed on a Guernsey man who indecently assaulted two young girls.

Duane Mark Green, 30, was found guilty of the offences after a week-long Royal Court trial in June and appeared before Judge Russell Finch for sentencing.

Crown advocate Fiona Russell read out the indictment and reminded the court of the facts of the case.

Green had denied four charges of indecent assault, two against a girl under the age of 10, referred to in court as Miss A, and two against a girl who was a pre-teen at the time of the attack, referred to as Miss B.

Two of the counts in relation to one of the girls were specimen charges, the court was told, representing assaults occurring on several occasions.

The offences occurred over the last six years.

Man indecently assaulted female for over 15 years

A MAN who indecently assaulted the same woman over a period of more than 15 years was jailed for a total of eight years in the Royal Court yesterday.

Sentencing David Mallett, 65, Judge Russell Finch said it had been, purely and simply, wicked conduct on the defendant’s part.

The breach of trust, the grooming, and the length of time that the offences spanned were aggravating factors, and he still maintained his innocence, which was common in cases of abuse.

Mallett’s crimes had caused significant and lasting damage to the woman, who had fallen victim to feelings of self-blame and self-hatred as a result.

His denials had forced her to give evidence in court and be subjected to protracted cross-examination by counsel.

Mallett had denied a total of eight charges of indecently assaulting the female but was found guilty of each at trial in February.

The first dated from the late 1970s when the woman was a child and the assaults continued into her adulthood.

Court left shaken by scenes from child sexual abuse video

A vile paedophile, who downloaded more than 15,000 indecent images of children, has been jailed for four years and nine months.

Darren Le Gallez, 33, admitted 21 counts of making, and two counts of distributing, indecent photographs and videos of children under the age of 16.

Le Gallez also had 928 videos with a collective running time of some 49 hours.

Some of the harrowing footage was played to the Royal Court during sentencing, leaving some in the room visibly shaken.

Passing sentence, Deputy Bailiff Richard McMahon said the prison term had to reflect the abhorrence the community felt towards anyone who engaged in such disgusting activity.

Teenager groomed schoolgirls online

A teenager has avoided a prison sentence after he was found guilty of grooming schoolgirls online 

Carl Halker, 18 of St. Peter Port, Guernsey had pleaded not guilty to a number of offences which included making indecent images of a female child aged under 16

The court was told that Halker had contacted a girl who was aged 14 years old. He persuaded her to take an indecent image of herself and insisted that she send it to him.

It was quite clear that Halker had groomed the child for sexual activity.

Halker was handed a probation order which would last for three years and he was told he must register as a sex offender for four years

ONE of the victims of rapist David Simon, 73, said that she still had flashbacks today although the crimes were committed in the 1980s.

Sentencing Simon to 15 years in prison for raping and indecently assaulting a child and a young woman, Judge Russell Finch commended the two victims for having the courage to come forward and give evidence at trial.

The other female said she self-harmed, had tried to kill herself and the court process had ‘ruined her’.

Simon, who continued to deny he had committed the crimes, was found guilty in November of 11 historic offences against the two women.

It was a unanimous verdict.

The charges included five counts of rape, five of indecent assault and of gross indecency.

One of the rape counts and three of the indecent assault ones were specimen charges.

‘Each of these women have had their life affected by your, and indeed others – but that is not relevant to this case – predatory activities.’

He said the Jurats found that the use of drugs, given to the victims, was a significant aggravating factor.
