Reading paedophile tried to destroy sexual abuse evidence

A paedophile banged up for more than a dozen years tried to destroy evidence related to his abuse after being arrested by police.

Roy Coxhead, formerly of Erleigh Road, Reading, was sentenced to 18 years behind bars last week after he sexually abused two boys between 2002 and 2017.

After he was arrested in June 2017, the 66-year-old tried to “destroy the evidence that related to his offending”, culminating in a “long and complicated” police investigation.

Coxhead was sentenced to 18 years in prison, with at least twelve of these to be served before he is eligible for parole.

The 66-year-old was sentenced at Reading Crown Court after being found guilty of two counts of indecency with a child; three counts of indecent assault on a male person; attempting to commit a serious sexual offence; perverting the course of justice; four counts of sexual activity with a child and two counts of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity

Judge jails Reading man for having child sex images and animal porn

A former security guard will spend more than a year in prison after being caught with indecent images of babies, a judge said were “some of the worst” she had ever seen.

Michael Mitchell, of Havergate Way, Reading, will spend 16 months behind bars after downloading more than 1,000 images and videos of child sexual abuse and animal porn.

The videos downloaded by the 41-year-old included one where a child estimated to be up to 18-months-old was in “visible distress and pain” after being violently sexually abused.

Another video outlined by Judge Campbell involved a dog performing a sex act on a child who was estimated to be between six and eight years old.

A court heard how Mitchell was “pleased” to have been caught by police because he “realised it was wrong” and he “couldn’t stop”.

Mitchell started downloading the images in January 2016 and over the course of more than three years accumulated more than 1,000 child and animal porn images.

His activities were discovered after an IP address associated to the distribution of the indecent images was linked to his residence.

Police arrived at his address on November 7, 2019 with a warrant to search his address.

Upon their arrival, Mitchell told police ‘the items you will be interested in will be in my room.’

Officers seized a laptop and Mitchell was arrested.

Following an analysis of his laptop, police found 368 ‘category A’ indecent images of children — the most severe and explicit type of images.

They also discovered 320 category B images and movies and 333 category C images and movies, with 70 images and videos of extreme porn featuring animals also found.

Prosecuting, Adam Williams said Mitchell’s offending stretched over a “significant period” before he was caught.

The 41-year-old had lost his job since news of his conviction emerged.

The judge said: “This is some of the worst [indecent image content] I have seen”

Describing a 17-minute video which showed a girl estimated to be 10-18 months old being sexually abused, Judge Campbell told the court the child was “crying”, and “clearly in visible distress and pain.”

Another video outlined by Judge Campbell involved a dog performing a sex act on a child estimated to be between six and eight years old.

She said the majority of the content on Mitchell’s laptop involved children estimated to be between four and eight years old.

She said: “These are real children and there are a number of different victims.”

Addressing Mitchell, Judge Campbell continued: “Your offending arose out of a long history of porn use because of your loneliness and boredom.

“These are images which are created for people like you in order to create a market.

“The aggravating factors are so serious that only a custodial sentence can be justified.”

Mitchell was sentenced to 16 months in prison after admitting to three counts of making indecent images of a child and one count of possessing an extreme pornographic image of intercourse with an animal.

The 41-year-old will serve half this sentence before being eligible for release, and was also handed a ten-year sexual harm prevention order.

He appeared at Reading Crown Court on Friday, May 21.

Reading man guilty of making 1,000 indecent images of children

A man who made more than more than 1,000 indecent images of children will be sentenced at Crown Court in the coming months.

Michael Mitchell, of Havergate Way, Reading, pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent photographs of children at a hearing at Reading Magistrates’ Court this morning (Thursday, April 8).

He also confessed to possessing six extreme pornographic images featuring sex with an animal.

The court heard how the 41 year old was arrested in November 2019 after police were alerted to his activity via his IP address.

Michael Mitchell appeared at Reading Magistrates Court

When officers arrived at his address, Mitchell told them: “The items you will be interested in will be in my room”, according to prosecutor Benjamin May.

After searching his property, officers found:

  • 368 ‘category A’ images of children, the most severe and explicit type of photographs

  • 320 ‘category B’ images of children

  • 333 ‘category C’ images of children

Six images which involved a person performing a sex act with a live or dead animal.

The images were made between January 2016 and November 2019.

Because he pleaded guilty Mitchell is required to notify officers at Reading Police Station he has committed a sexual offence.

He will also be forced to inform police if he stays at an address where an under-18 is living in the future.

The defendant was not sentenced by District Judge Sam Goozee, who told him he should receive “greater punishment” than what could be handed to him at magistrates’ court.

He has been remanded on unconditional bail and will be given a date for sentencing at Reading Crown Court.

Perverts haul of indecent images

A pervert has been spared prison for possession of thousands of indecent photographs and videos of children and animals.

Piers Waters, a father of three, downloaded 1.7 million images between 2017 and 2019, Reading Crown Court heard.

The 45-year-old, of Buckingham Gate, Emmer Green, admitted the offence and was given an 18-month prison sentence, suspended for two years, and placed on the sex offenders’ register for 10 years.

The court heard that when Waters was first interviewed by police he answered all questions with “No comment”.

He only owned up once the offending files were found on devices seized from his home.

He was charged with making 871 of the most serious kind of images involving children and animals, 1,280 which were less explicit and 246,000 images of the least serious.

Iwona Boesche, prosecuting, said police found a number of terms in Waters’s internet browsing history which pointed to him searching for sexual images of children.

These included one which refers to a website where users can chat to strangers and is known for being frequented by sexual predators.

Ms Boesche said: “A lot of files were inaccessible but that doesn’t mean Mr Waters did not access them, it just means they were deleted from the device having been previously downloaded.

“The aggravating features are the huge volume of images and moving images and the period they were possessed, which is a year. There must have been a huge number of victims.”

Waters, who earns £65,000 a year as a service compliance manager. The court heard that Waters is separated from his wife

Sentencing, Judge Anne Studd said: “You have no previous convictions and pleaded guilty at the earliest opportunity and you’ve undertaken impressive steps to improve yourself, which allows me to make a suspended order.”

Waters was also ordered to take part in 25 days of rehabilitation activities and 70 hours of unpaid work and to pay £425 costs and a victim surcharge of £140.

Pervert guilty of sexual assault and taking indecent images

A pervert who sexually assaulted a child and took indecent images has pleaded guilty to 24 offences.

Alex Blacklock appeared at Winchester Crown Court on Wednesday last week where he admitted to a raft of crimes.

The 31-year-old pleaded guilty to 12 counts of taking indecent images of a child in Andover in 2017 and 2018.

On the same dates he also sexually assaulted a child on two separate occasions.

Blacklock, of London Street, Reading, will also be sentenced on seven counts of making indecent images of a child, and two counts of voyeurism, in which he recorded a woman carrying out a private act.

West Berkshire sex offender ‘had child in home’

A convicted sex offender was arrested after a child allegedly stayed in his home.

He also accused of further violations of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO).

In the dock at Reading Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, February 3, was Matthew James Alder.

Until recently the 38-year-old lived at Lyon Close, Thatcham, and in Sycamore Rise, Newbury.

His latest address is Southend Road, Bradfield Southend.

Mr Alder was made subject to the SHPO in 2013.

At the latest hearing, he was accused of failing to notify the authorities that a child had stayed at his home in Bradfield Southend for 12 hours or longer.

He was further charged with failing to notify them of his new address after moving from Lyon Close; of failing to notify them when he moved from Sycamore Rise; of failing to produce his computer on request and of failing to produce his iPhone when requested to do so.

All the offences were said to have been committed in Newbury, Thatcham and Bradfield Southend between May 13, 2018, and February 8, 2019.

Mr Alder, who was legally represented at the hearing, was told that the case could progress no further that day.

Magistrates adjourned all five matters until a later date and he was meanwhile released on unconditional bail.
